My Slow Morning Routine: How I Stay Sane as a Busy Working Mom
Little CoCo
My life is a constant juggling act. Between my full-time job, helping my daughter with school, managing the house, and keeping up with appointments and practices—it’s nonstop. And let’s not forget: people (and me!) still have to eat, so cooking dinner makes the list too.
That’s exactly why I don’t play when it comes to how I start my day. Everything around me moves at lightning speed, so I make sure my mornings go as slow as possible. That’s my secret to being at least somewhat likable in the middle of all the chaos.
When my alarm goes off, I give myself time to just be. I lay in bed, snuggle with my little Coco, and stretch like a cat before rolling out of bed. First thing I do: open all my curtains. I let the sunlight pour in and greet my skin with warm kisses (my favorite part). I don’t know what kind of magic Vitamin D is made of, but it instantly puts a smile on my face.
Once I’ve been kissed by the sun and I’m grinning ear to ear, it’s time for vibes. Some mornings I blast my favorite tunes and dance my way into the day. Other times, I put on a podcast—especially if I’ve already done enough running around the day before.
While the music or podcast plays, I brush my teeth and hop in the shower. I love my showers hot, like “standing under the sun” hot. It’s the best feeling in the world. While I’m there, I pray—nothing formal, just giving thanks for everything big and small. It’s a habit that happened naturally and now it’s one of my favorite morning rituals. It sets the tone for my entire day.
After my shower, I cleanse my face with my go-to face wash, then head to my vanity for my morning skincare routine. Once I’m all glowed up, I lotion, get dressed, and finally step out of my bedroom feeling grounded, grateful, and ready to face the day.
There’s real power in getting ready slowly. It’s my calm before the daily storm—and honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
