A Birthday Dinner Worth Celebrating

Capone’s Chop House Review:

The Perfect Birthday Dinner in Hackensack, NJ

I spent my 31st birthday with my hubby at Capone’s Chop House in Hackensack, New Jersey. I came across this spot on TikTok, and from what I saw, the food looked absolutely amazing—so I had to try it for myself.

Location, Parking & Reservations

Capone’s is located within a shopping mall complex but has its own private entrance from the outside, which I loved. There is plenty of parking available, but since it’s attached to a mall with multiple restaurants, it can get pretty packed—even on a Wednesday evening.

I highly recommend making a reservation. During the week, reservations are easier to come by, but on weekends you’ll definitely want to book in advance.

First Impressions & Service

Upon entering, we were warmly greeted at the hostess stand and seated right away. Our server came over almost immediately, which set the tone for the night.

Let me just say—the service was a 100000/10. Everyone, from our server to the sommelier to the staff clearing the tables, was incredibly kind and attentive. It truly elevated the entire experience.

Starters That Set the Tone

Before we even got there, I warned my husband to prepare his wallet because I planned to try everything that caught my eye.

We started with the warm, homemade parmesan-crusted focaccia served with whipped ricotta, hot honey, and crispy rosemary. It was delicious, though I do wish the ricotta had a bit more of a kick.

Next, we ordered the hash browns & caviar, topped with deviled egg yolk, a generous dollop of caviar, and chives. I had been craving caviar for a while, so this dish hit the spot—I’m not even going to lie, I ate that whole plate myself!

We also got the lamb chop lollipops with chimichurri and pomegranate molasses. My husband and I love lamb chops, and these did not disappoint. They were incredibly tender and seasoned to perfection.

Main Course Highlights

For our entrées, we shared the 16 oz prime New York strip, charred broccolini with chiles, and truffle disco fries.

By the time our food arrived, we were already close to being full—but we pushed through (no regrets!).

The steak was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful sear on the outside and tender, juicy meat on the inside. The broccolini was flavorful, and while the truffle disco fries were good, I personally would have loved a stronger truffle flavor along with a bit more salt and pepper.

The Sweetest Ending

To wrap up the night, I ordered the carrot cake. Now, I’m not usually a huge carrot cake fan—but this one completely changed my mind.

It was incredibly moist with perfectly balanced flavors—hands down the best carrot cake I’ve ever had.

To make the night even more special, our waiter, staff, and even surrounding tables sang “Happy Birthday” to me. It was such a sweet and memorable moment.

Final Thoughts

Overall, if you’re looking for an incredible atmosphere, top-tier service, and delicious food, Capone’s Chop House should absolutely be on your list.

I would love to come back for an early lunch and then spend the rest of the day in New York walking off all those calories!
