How I Finally Got My Hormonal Acne Under Control ✨
Let’s be real—hormonal acne is no joke. I’ve been dealing with it since I was a teenager, and to this day, stress and my cycle are my biggest triggers.
In 2021, I decided to take things seriously and went to school to become a licensed esthetician. Honestly, I went in for hair removal training (waxing, laser—the fun stuff 😅), but ended up falling in love with skin.
While I was in school, I learned something that completely changed how I see skincare: it’s not just about what you put on your skin—it’s also about what’s happening inside your body.
Once I understood that, everything clicked. To get real, lasting results, you need a lifestyle shift + quality skincare. Fast-forward three and a half years later, and my skin has completely transformed—from dull and uneven to glowy and balanced.
Here’s what’s been working for me and the exact products I swear by 👇
🧼 Step 1: Cleanser – CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (for Oily Skin)
This is my tried-and-true cleanser and the first step of my skincare routine (when I’m not wearing makeup). It helps control oil, keeps my pores clear, and gives me that clean-but-not-stripped feeling.
How I use it:
Wash my hands first (non-negotiable).
Pump a quarter-size amount into damp hands and lather it up.
Apply to a dry face and massage in circular motions for about 1½–2 minutes.
Let my face air-dry with a little help from my mini fan.
Simple, effective, and gentle—everything I need in a cleanser.
🌙 Step 2: Toner – The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner (PM only!)
This toner has been a game-changer for my dark spots and post-acne marks. It evens out my skin tone and gives me that fresh, bright look over time.
💡 Fun tip: You can also use it on your underarms to help lighten uneven skin tone there too!
⚠️ Important: Only use this at night! It’s an acid, so it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight if used during the day.
💧 Step 3: Exfoliant – Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
Now THIS right here is my holy grail. If I had to pick one product to keep forever, it would be this one.
It smooths texture, clears up breakouts, and literally makes my skin glow. I use it in both my AM and PM routines—right after cleansing and toning.
It’s lightweight, silky, and never irritates my skin. Just… chef’s kiss. 👌
🌙 Step 4: Overnight Mask – Paula’s Choice Radiance Renewal Mask
This mask is the cherry on top of my PM routine and my secret to waking up with soft, glassy skin.
How I use it:
Apply to my face, neck, and chest after my exfoliant.
Use my mini fan to help it set.
Sleep with it on overnight for that deep hydration boost.
When I rinse in the morning, my skin feels smooth, hydrated, and glowy—like I just had a facial in my sleep.
✨ Final Thoughts: Consistency Is Everything
If there’s one thing I’ve learned as an esthetician, it’s this: your skincare products only work if you do. You have to be consistent, patient, and gentle with your skin.
This exact routine helped me take my skin from breakout-prone and dull to even-toned and radiant. If I can do it, you can too! 💕
