Quiet Time & 10 Solo Date Ideas for Moms

There is nothing like a quiet house at the end of a long week. Windows from ground to roof open as far as they can, letting in the fresh air, sunlight, and bird chatter. The task list is completed, and all there is left to do is enjoy this moment of quiet harmony with a crisp, refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Journaling every second of this harmonious moment.

My bonus children are with their mother, and my daughter is having some quiet time for herself after this long and trying week. The September chill took over my home this past week. First, it was my baby girl, Aubrey, at the end of the previous week with a cold. I made homemade Italian penicillin soup with chicken bone broth instead of regular chicken broth for the beneficial nutrients. The soup seemed to do its job; she was back to herself after a bowl of soup and a good night’s rest.

I had a bowl myself, as well as my oldest bonus daughter, to try to get ahead of the cold that was running rampant in my daughter’s fifth-grade class. I, unfortunately, got hit with a headache that I couldn’t shake. From Tuesday to Thursday, I was a walking zombie. It was a miracle that I was able to function at work and stay on top of my classwork. I am just happy that by the time Friday came around, I was feeling much better. I was not able to make it to the gym, sadly, but what needed to be done got done, so a win is a win.

To add the cherry on top of the wins this week is one of my favorite things: quiet time! I love time to myself. It is how I stay grounded and a pleasant human being to be around. I have no shame in my game. There are so many people who preach that they don’t need time away from their family, their kids, etc. I say, GOOD FOR YOU!

There is no shame for the mothers, wives, and caregivers who need a moment to themselves to catch their breath. We all balance a lot from day to day, and we all have different ways of filling our cups. Mine just so happens to be bouncing around my empty house half-naked, if not all the way butterball naked, sipping my favorite wine, blasting music, and shaking my locs to the rhythm of the music. No one needs me. I have no obligations to fulfill. Just ME needing ME to be present in these moments of stillness.

Here is your sign to take the time for YOU. Momma, YOU deserve it. No fuss, just a must to carve out time for yourself. If you are one of those mommas who feels so guilty about taking a moment for yourself, I get it. I’ve been there. I had to build my way up from guilt to gratefulness.

Here’s what I recommend: start small. Do something that you think you would enjoy, even if it is just for an hour or two. Not sure what to do? Here are 10 “Me Date” ideas for you:

It is so easy to get lost in the routine, but remember to commit to yourself. Don’t overthink it. The goal is to disconnect and unplug from the noise so that you can stay connected to yourself.
